We tell our kids to tell the truth we say honesty is the best policy But is telling the truth becoming a lost art It s an issue Tracie Bettenhausen is looking into in her special report Liar Liar Tracie Bettenhausen I ve been thinking about this story for a couple weeks And whether it s coicidence or not just about every day in the news I ve noticed that truth and lies keep coming up I ve always sought the truth tell the truth and the whole truth It was utter fiction they chose to lie You know at the end of the day all you have is trust and honor in this world That s all you have Tracie Bettenhausen That last soundbite comes from last night s 60 Minutes Former C-I-A director George Tenet says Vice President Dick Cheney was lying when he said they chose to go to war in Iraq because Tenet said the issue of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was a slam dunk You can see the full 60 Minutes report on that at www cbsnews com All these lies and allegations of lies made me wonder Is there more lying going on or are we just hearing more about it Mark Springer teaches politcal science at the University of Mary He blames the so-called CSPAN effect Mark Springer Political Science U-Mary Today it becomes a story because we have the soundbite and we can catch them saying it and repeat it over and over again and then say Oh hey we have a story Tracie Bettenhausen Tonight at ten we ll go into the different types of lies we tell and why Oh and by the way today is National Honesty Day Tracie talked to an addiction counselor an auditor the insurance commissioner a pastor looking at the different motivations to lie That s tonight at ten
