Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama is denouncing Reverend Jeremiah Wright s recent comments At a press conference yesterday the senator said he s outraged by what his former pastor said about the U S government At a press event earlier this week the reverend made several controversial statements including suggesting the government spread AIDS among the black community Obama said Wright s remarks contradict what his vision is for America
President Bush is blaming congress for not acting on the economy At a news conference yesterday he accused lawmakers of blocking proposals to help energy and economic concerns Bush says the Democratic led congress is taking no action on his ideas to curb the rising gas and food prices and the slowing economy But democrats fired back senate majority leader Harry Reid says the administration is only giving the same ideas that got the country in the economic slump in the first place
Two more U S soldiers in Iraq are dead today making April the deadliest month there since September The military says one soldier was gunned down and the other was killed in a roadside bomb in Baghdad That reportedly makes the casualty toll for soldiers in the region 46 for this month the highest in six months But the death count is down from the same month last year when 104 soldiers were killd in Iraq
Meanwhile officials say Iraqi leaders may meet with followers of rebel cleric Moqtada al Sadr Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki is reportedly expected to have talks wth the delegation of Sadrists to discuss the recent violence in Baghdad s Sadr City But the two sides are apparently far from coming to a compromise More than 500 people have been killed and thousands injured since Maliki launched an offensive against Shiite militias last month
