u-n-m head football coach mike locksley may face a more severe punishment for hitting one of his assistant coaches locksley was initially going to be written up but now u-n-m officials are launching an internal investigation — which could lead to locksley being suspended or even fired jeff maher is live in the newsroom with the latest jeff earlier this we at a press conference unm vice president of athletics paul krebs said locksley s scuffle was an isolated incident — and that there would be no further discipline for locksley beyond being written up and getting a verbal warning now that could change

05 01 pm the fallout from the scuffle between mike locksley and wide receivers coach j-b gerald is far from over u-n-m officials say they re investigating the case further — and based on the findings locksley could face more consequences the university does not tolerate any violence and the campus policy states any u-n-m employee could be suspended or fired for assaulting another person two sundays ago gerald filed a police report — telling officers that locksley punched him in the mouth at a coaches meeting after the lobos lost to air force no charges were filed — so what should happen to coach locksley it s the talk of the campus i think he should be fired most definitely football team not doing that well anyways so it may do a favor in the long run i think he should just be given a warning because it seems to be an isolated incident and i don t really think that firing him is really necessary

05 02 pm locksley is in the first year of a six-year contract he makes 750- thousand dollars a year u-n-m president david schmidly will be among a few u-n-m officials who will decide whether locksley will face further disciplinary action i mean he s a coach if he s going to punch one of his assistant coaches there s no way to prove that he s not going to punch somebody else like one of the kids or something like that locksley has apologized for the incident and admits that what he did was unacceptable we tried contacting krebs to find out more about the investigation but our calls were not returned live in the newsroom jeff maher eyewitness news four
