We see the bell ringers outside stores and throughout the community but have you ever wondered where the money they collect ends up Today Dan Erdmann caught up with our local Salvation Army as they brightened the holidays for hundreds in need Dan Erdmann KX News 6 days 5 hours and 43 minutes That s how much time remains until Christmas officially arrives but thanks to an annual event of giving today Santa paid an early visit to dozens of area families Maj Jane Kincaid Salvation Army Today is our toy and basket distribution and we ll serve gosh about 380 people will come through today Dan Erdmann KX News This is what the Salvation Army is all about For over 20 years this event has helped in providing the kind of Christmas that might not have otherwise been possible for these families Maj Jane Kincaid Salvation Army You can t pick the family you re born into whether it s rich or poor and I don t want the kids to go without a Christmas We will give out gifts until Christmas Eve Dan Erdmann KX News In order to provide this kind of help the Salvation Army needs a little help of its own and today that assistance came from volunteers of Minot s Young Professionals Network Stephanie LeDuc Volunteer It s great to see what the community has put together to give to people in need and it s also great to see the people that are receiving it It s really nice the amount of items that are here and the toys and the food that have been donated by the community Dan Erdmann KX News This is truly the fruit of Salvation Army labor All the toys clothing and food distributed today are the result of hours of bell-ringing and donation requests But in addition to volunteers Kincaid says their biggest boost comes from the community itself Maj Jane Kincaid Salvation Army People just really are generous people they know there s a need and they can buy into what s going on they will give and that s what we really need Dan Erdmann KX News Kincaid says every once in awhile she s reminded how small acts of kindness like these can have a big impact Maj Jane Kincaid Salvation Army Just a couple of days ago I was picking up one of our Christmas kettles at the end of the day and this mother came and dropped some change in and said I want to thank you I was one of the people who received a Christmas gift and toys last year and I m doing better this year That really touches your heart to know that people really appreciate it Dan Erdmann KX News Of course giving is the main goal for Salvation Army volunteers and it s an art they practice 365 days a year Maj Jane Kincaid Salvation Army We don t just do the Christmas and then We ll see you next Christmas Every day we help people Dan Erdmann KX News Dan Erdmann KX News Major Kincaid says if you missed today s distribution and would still like to pick up a few gifts you can stop by the Minot Salvation Army during business hours Monday through Thursday
